Style Inspiration: Brochu Walker

This season, I'm looking forward to wearing layers, leggings, long cardigans (excuse the alliteration), stripes and neutral tones.  Brochu Walker shows us how casual comfort is anything but sloppy.  Aren't these looks downright cozy?

I'm not much of a bracelet kind of girl (they always seem to get in the way of typing) but I could definitely see myself in one of these casually sweet knitted cord cuffs by A Alicia Hand Made.  They're made from organic, fair trade cotton and would be an unexpected surprise with a cocktail dress.  I'll take the orange and grey please.

Interiors: Red + Neutral

Red decor is a must for me but I especially like it when paired against a neutral backdrop.  Add red to cream, grey, or white walls and you instantly have a little more pep in your step.   Don't get me wrong here, I like bold combinations too (red and purple or red and blue anyone?) but there's something to be said about the energetic yet comfortable coziness that can be achieved with a red and neutral color palette.  Do you have any red in your home? If so, what colors do you pair it with?

I adore the shape and utilitarian design of these handmade bags by Talitha Leather.  The brown leather bag is so pretty and its adjustable strap mean you can wear it across your body or just one shoulder.   Oh the possibilities.

Diana Mini Round II

If you recall, I've recently attempted to try my hand at lomography and I've started with the Diana Mini.   I recently shot two rolls and only a handful of photos came out.  The others, including photos of our honeymoon, were terribly overexposed or just plain white because I accidentally had the shutter mode set to "b" which allowed too much light in (so many things to think about before taking a shot!). Very, very disappointing and kind of a dumb idea on my part to depend on a finicky camera and my lack of skills to document our beach trip (what was I thinking?).   I'm not giving up though!  I will NOT be defeated by a piece of plastic.
You can see the rest of my attempts on my flickr page if you feel so inclined.

Happy Weekend

Oh friends, I am so ready for fall and for this weekend.   My one goal is to rest up as I"ve been battling some sort of strange infection and I've yet to receive definitive results from my doctor(s) as to what it could be (in the running is staph infection...eewww).  I have every intention to give my body the rest it deserves and needs right now so that I can start feeling normal again. What are your plans?  Anything fun?

p.s. I love this menswear look with the vintage style glasses and long hair (grow hair, grow!).

Interiors: Creamy Natural

In sharp contrast to my post yesterday, I'm offering up some casual, comfortable, soothing, creamy neutral spaces.  The versatility in these spaces show us that sandy beige, off white, and pale yellow work with any aesthetic to create a space that depends less on sharp lines and more on soft comfort.  Assuming one day B and I have a house of our own, I will be definitely be utilizing these spaces for inspiration.

I haven't worn a watch in years but I certainly would mind changing my ways and perhaps working on punctuality with one of these watches from O'Clock.  Manufactured in Italy and sold in the U.S., these watches come in a huge variety of colors, are smartly priced at $36 AND they're water resistant!  The only difficulty for me is which color to choose.

Interiors: White, Yellow, Black

Classic, clean, modern with a touch of warmth and a splash of color.  Sometimes this combo can be too sharp for my tastes but I think this space gets it just right.  Hope you're having a good week and happy hump day!

Fall Shopping: for the office

I'm not going to lie.  The truth of the matter is, I don't love shopping for office attire.  It feels a little like work, if you know what I mean.  My closet is in desperate need of sprucing up so I've decided that I'm going to stick to purchasing only items that I can mix and match and easily accessorize as well as dress down or up so that it feels less like "office shopping" and more like, "yay, let's go shopping!" Here are my picks:

1)  pleat collar blouse $80 2) peakaboo sequin cardigan $49.99 (was $118)
3) tab jacket $135 4) essential knit turtle neck dress $68
5) true straight pants $49.50 6) city classic pencil skirt $59.50
7) striped cowl neck t $19.50 8) equilateral necklace $42
9) medium leather buckle satchel $100 10) seychelle's flamingo ballet flat $89.95

See anything you like?

I don't own a jacket with a hood and that's a problem.  There are so many times I catch myself thinking, "oh man, I really wish I had on a hood right now."  It might sound strange, but it's true (and necessary if you're ever trying to avoid someone).  Too bad the closest Uniqlo store is in New York which isn't close at all.  Uniqlo- please, please, please, for the love of all things stylish and affordable, get an online store ALREADY! You're killing me.

Southern Flourish + Plate Walls

I'm excited to announce that I am a contributor for the fall issue of Southern Flourish.  I was asked to write an article about a topic I've been blogging about for some time - plate walls!

I'm really pleased with how the article turned out and I appreciate this lovely lady for asking me to participate.  Check out the full issue here.  I'd love to know what you think!

Happy Weekend!

What are you doing this weekend?  B and I are going out of town to celebrate my niece's 6th birthday (how did she get so big?!).  I'm hoping to snag some time to catch up on some much missed blog reading and maybe even relax a little.    I'm slowly adjusting to my new job and the change of pace and trying to figure out how to achieve balance again.  This weekend, I hope to taking advantage of the beautiful weather, relaxed tempo, and joyful celebration of a young birthday.   I hope you have a good one!

Hello Rue!

The first issue of Rue is out, and I have to say, the lovely ladies behind this new online mag did a fantastic job.  It's lovely to see what a few bloggers can do when they put their minds and passion together. Wow!

Lace Up Boots for Fall

B's birthday is coming up and I bought him a pair of fantastic lace up boots (yes, I should win wife of the year, I know) and when they arrived, I decided I need some lace up boots for fall.  If his boots would fit me, I'd simply wear them, but I figure it's not much of a birthday gift if I end up using them.  Here are some of my favorites:

Hannah Lace Up Boots $184.99/ Melissa Tall Lace Up Boot $397.95

Romance Lace Up Heel $143/ Lace-up Tread Bottom Bootie Heel $68
Meteor Shower Lace Up Suede $154/ Peroxy $119

So many options, how does one choose?

Interiors: Workspaces and pops of color

I need some color in my workspace and these examples have just the right amount without being overstimulating.  All of these spaces include fantastic wooden desks along with clever splashes of color and quirky designs that remind us that work should be fun.  Even when it isn't.

Wishlist 9.14.10

See these pretty flowers I wore in my hair to get married?  They're from ban.do's bridal collection but now...
ban.do has been clever enough to come out with a smaller, sister version of the same flowers for everyday, casual wear.  The "baby heart m" is sold in pairs for $25 and are available in the color combo of your choice.
The best part about these flowers is that they double as brooches and hair clips so you get the best of both worlds.  Aren't they adorable?
